Reflection. I think it's important that we look back at different points in our lives and reflect. Taking a step back and seeing things from a different perspective. It's a great to evaluate that things you have done and may still have yet to do. Without reflection, how can we pour into ourselves? It can be so easy to pour into someone else's cup and remind them of their accomplishments and the doors that they have yet to open. But sometimes, when it comes to pouring into our own cup, sometimes we are left empty handed. Some great questions to ask yourself as you're self-reflecting are:
- What have I accomplished so far?
Now this can be over the past month, few months, year, or years.
- What else would I like to accomplish?
- What are my long-term goals and what are my short-term goals?
Now I will say, giving yourself a timeline to complete certain goals may be more effective. Kind of lights the fire under you. Puts your thoughts in actual action and not just on standby. Now, will you complete all goals by each deadline that give yourself? Maybe, maybe not. If not, that's perfectly fine. Why? Because you are running on your own timeline and running at your own pace. It's the ultimate race against yourself. The old you versus your highest self.
- Where do I see myself in the next year? Five years? Ten years?
- How will I achieve these goals
Let's say you're trying to accomplish something that you have no clue on where to start. Nobody within your circle of friends and family are doing this but it's something that you've been passionate about for a long time. Say, real estate for example. How can you accomplish owning your own property and becoming a landlord? You could go to conventions, watch YouTube videos, buys books, or even reach out to people you see on social media and ask them how they got started. If you overhear a conversation while you out and about, you can engage there too. Seeing is believing.
- What can I give myself grace for.?
- What can I celebrate myself now for?
Figuring out what your next steps are isn't always black and white. It can be frustrating at times so it's always great to acknowledge yourself for what you have done so far. No matter how big or small that achievement is. It's not a competition against anyone else. It's just you and your higher self.
